Closing the Gap: Resources Supporting Effective Use of Data

Date: Thursday, November 8, 2012
Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST

In the current era of maximizing accountability and an increasing importance on the effective use of data, district and school leaders are increasingly being asked to make classroom-level student data available in forms that are usable for improving instructional practices. Two tools—student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS)—have the capacity to store and analyze large amounts of student data and require districts to foster a data-rich culture.

Through a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grant, the American Association of School Administrators, the Consortium for School Networking, and Gartner, Inc., are collaborating in a project titled Closing the Gap: Turning SIS/LMS Data into Action (Closing the Gap) in support of leveraging student data to strengthen classroom instruction.

This session will provide lessons learned from SIS/LMS selection and implementation templates, case studies with six K-12 school districts and professional development resources. Insights into K-12 districts’ plans for the use of data effectively identified in the Closing the Gap online community of practice will also be shared.
