Withrow CTO Award
Eligibility: Nominate a district chief technology officer (or equivalent title). Self nominations are encouraged. CoSN board members (and their institutions) are ineligible for all CoSN awards.
Award: One complimentary conference registration, $1,000 toward travel expenses, and a profile in Schoolastic Administr@tor Magazine.
Notification: The winner will be notified in January and recognized at the CoSN Annual Conference.
About the Award
The CoSN Withrow CTO Award recognizes a District CTO who best represents the model set forward by Frank Withrow, a pioneer and champion of the uses of technology in K-12 education. Frank has been a classroom teacher, early childhood educator, Director of Research and Clinical Services for the Department of Children and Family Services for the state of Illinois. Frank was a long-standing member of the CoSN Board of Directors. The Withrow CTO Award is sponsored by SchoolDude.
Judging Criteria
Leadership: provides leadership in the application of information technologies to increase opportunities and accessibility for student learning.
Building Community: Creates communication vehicles that help parents, teachers and educational leaders form partnerships to engage students in the learning process.
Innovation: Uses technology to provide solutions that are based on best practices and can be replicated to meet such challenges as:
- Using data to improve decision making,
- Providing increased access to education through such media as online learning.
- Linking homes to schools and to the broader community.
- Providing access and solutions for all segments of learners in order to bridge the digital divide that separates the affluent from the poor.
Impact: Makes a difference by creating major change in the district or agencies.
Public/Private Partnerships: Develops important effective public and/or private sector partnerships and policies that provide connectivity to learners in schools.
