 CETL Certification Exam

CoSN's Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL)Certification Exam

You’re going to the CoSN Annual Conference because you’re committed to learning the latest and emerging education technologies. Earning CoSN’s Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) designation will demonstrate that commitment throughout your career. This first-ever certification for education technology leaders is designed to identify those in the field who have mastered the knowledge and skills necessary to be a successful CTO and to bring that knowledge to their districts.

Kick off the premier education technology conference by sitting for the CETL exam. Applications are now being accepted for the March 4 administration of this exam.

What is the CETL Certification?

The CETL certification exam is based on the Framework of Essential Skills for K-12 CTO. Developed by professionals working in the field, the Framework is the body of knowledge that successful education technology leaders must have to bring 21st century learning environments into our nation’s schools.

How is the Exam Structured?

The exam is two parts, both of which are administered using a proprietary internet-based testing system. Part I is a multiple-choice, two-hour exam and must be taken at a proctored site. Part II is an essay-based exam that is taken using the applicant’s own computer. Only those who pass Part I will be eligible to take Part II. The next exam administration is being offered during the 2012 CoSN Annual Conference. Those who pass Part I will be notified about how to access Part I. Testers will be given seven days to submit Part II. Those who pass both parts of this rigorous exam will be CETL-certified. All items on the exam relate to one of the 10 skill areas identified in the Framework.

Why Should I Take This Exam?

For K-12 education technology leaders, earning the CETL certification will demonstrate to your staff, superintendent, and other stakeholders that you have mastered the knowledge and skills needed to define the vision for and successfully build 21st century learning environments in your school district.

Is Certification Right for Me?

The CoSN CETL certification program is specifically designed for CTOs and those aspiring to be CTOs. Those who achieve CETL certification will

·         demonstrate to your colleagues, superintendents, and subordinates that you have mastered the body of knowledge needed to bring 21st century technology to K-12 school districts

·         show your dedication to remaining current in the education technology field through the CETL recertification requirements

·         work with your school district to ensure that technology is considered and implemented in all aspects of your school district’s strategic planning

If you aspire to achieve these goals, the CETL certification is right for you.

How Do I Sign Up?

The exam is being administered on Sunday, March 4 prior to the kick-off of the CoSN Annual Conference. This is the inaugural administration. Those who pass the two-part exam will become some of the first-ever CETL certificants.
