 Green Computing Certification Program

The CoSN green computing certification process provides school technology leaders with an opportunity to receive recognition for efforts to lead the school or district in reducing its carbon footprint. This program is open to all K-12 schools and districts.

This program includes responsible purchasing with EPEAT certification, computer infrastructure energy usage reductions, appropriate computer disposal and use of computers to reduce waste. You will likely find that you are already part way there.

Joining the CoSN Green Computing Certification Program is easy, quick, and free. This program qualifies you for recognition from CoSN and EPEAT for your green IT efforts, helps you inform your community about your efforts to be good environmental stewards with your IT operations, and enables you to connect with other organizations using CoSN and EPEAT to green their IT infrastructure. CoSN provides green computing certified schools with an official certificate and a logo for website and other communications use.

Forms are available for your use to plan and apply for green computing certification: an initial planning guide, a first year initial certification request and an ongoing annual certification renewal form.

To understand what is required, review the Green Computing Certification Guide. This is a planning document for your internal use with steps to take, with additional resources, in preparation for your Initial Certification Application.

When you have performed the requested actions from the Initial Certification Plan, you are ready to apply for your first year certification. To apply for your first year certification, download (save)the Initial Certification Application form, fill in the requested information and return it to CoSN. (CoSN will work with EPEAT on your behalf for combined CoSN/EPEAT certification.)

Certification is an annual process, best managed on a fiscal year basis. For the fiscal year following your initial certification and continuing each year thereafter, we request that you provide updates of your green computing efforts by downloading (save), filling and returning the Annual Certification Renewal form.

Thanks for doing your part to make our planet a better place to live.
