The Children's Partnership

Learn about online safety and access Web sites with information useful to parents.

The Children's Partnership under their Digital Opportunity for Youth Series developed a briefing document entitled Empowering Parents Through Technology to Improve Odds for Children. This document examines how parents can increase involvement in their children's education through innovative uses of technology and proper training.

This presentation provides statistics on kids' use of the Internet and arms parents with knowledge of the different programs their children may be using, alerts parents to potential Internet risks, and provides parents with tips on Internet safety. This presentation may be used in full or in part, depending on the audience and its needs.

This guide is for parents who have begun to see that computers and online services will be or already are a part of children’s lives at school, at community centers, at home, or at the library — and who are looking for some guidelines and advice. We have written it with the computer novice in mind and have provided simple definitions and ideas for how to get involved.
