Withrow CTO Award
The Withrow Award is named for Frank Withrow, a longtime pioneer and champion of the uses of technology in K-12 education. Frank's history in education is extensive- He has been a classroom teacher, early childhood educator, Director of Research and Clinical Services for the Department of Children and Family Services for the state of Illinois. Frank was a long-standing member of the CoSN Board of Directors.
Award Criteria
- Leadership: Provides leadership in the application of information technologies to increase opportunities and accessibility for student learning.
- Building Community: Creates communication vehicles that help parents, teachers and educational leaders form a partnership to engage students in the learning process.
- Innovation: Uses technology to provide solutions that are based on best practices and can be replicated to meet such challenges as:
- Using data to improve decision making.
- Providing increased access to education through such media as online learning.
- Linking homes to schools and to the broader community.
- Providing access and solutions for all segments of learners in order to bridge the digital divide that separates the affluent from the poor.
- Impact: Makes a difference by creating major change in the district or agencies.
- Public/Private Partnerships: Develops important effective public and/or private sector partnerships and policies that provide connectivity to learners in schools.
