Experience and Educational Background
-
I seek to serve on the CoSN Board and share my fourteen years of education technology industry experience. I have worked in a variety of capacities in the Ed-Tech industry and over the years for both small and large companies. I began my career with a regional education technology reseller, followed by eight years with Apple Computer, working in a variety of sales and management roles. Currently, I work for Atomic Learning as CEO. Atomic Learning, Inc. was formed in 2000 by a group of technology educators with a mission to create useful and affordable online products focused on teaching people how to effectively use technology. Atomic Learning delivers a library of thousands of short, easy-to-view-and-understand tutorial movies that can be used as an integral part of a professional development program, a valuable curriculum supplement, and an anytime/anywhere software training resource.

As a prospective member of the CoSN Board of Directors, what do you view as the top three priorities for improving K-12
information technology?
-
Priority One:
-
Legislative advocacy - more coordinated efforts are needed to ensure that the collective voice of education is heard at the state and federal levels. Significant progress has been made at the federal level over the last several years. However, additional efforts are needed to ensure on-going funding for educational technology. There is significant opportunity for better coordination of efforts at the state level.
-
Priority Two:
-
Schools around the US face a number challenges regarding interoperability. Some key issues facing education include better integration of disparate resources, single sign-on and federated search.
-
Priority Three:
-
Professional development - Limited time and resources for professional development have slowed schools efforts to integrate technology. Professional development continues to be an issue for teachers and school CIO’s alike. Efforts are needed provide a more robust clearinghouse of technology professional development opportunities and solutions.
-
I wish become a member of the CoSN Board of Directors because:
-
While K-12 institutions have become increasingly sophisticated with the adoption and implementation of educational technology solutions there continues to be a number of challenges facing this industry. Legislative demands, budget challenges, varied technical standards, limited professional development and other challenges have slowed delivering on the promise of educational technology. The CoSN Board provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of the many interested parties that serve education and the educational technology industry and an opportunity to contribute to and coordinate advocacy for the institutions we collectively serve. I am eager to contribute my time and experience to the CoSN Board. I'm Chuck Amos and I approve this message.
-
If elected, I bring the following skills to the CoSN Board of Directors:
-
With fourteen years of experience in the education market I bring a broad understanding of the issues facing both educators and education industry providers in both domestic and international markets. I have a strong background in organizational development, strategic business development and planning. I also bring a strong background in budgeting and managing the budget to achieve the strategic goals that have been set.
-
I believe the most important goals for CoSN to achieve as a leading K-12 technology organization are:
-
While there are a number of areas of critical importance I believe the most important goals for CoSN to achieve are: Work to expand CoSN's reach through increased membership of school CIO's and education industry providers to further amplify CoSN's efforts. Secondly, coordination of legislative efforts and advocacy. Lastly, CoSN has a unique opportunity to act a clearinghouse for technology professional development for various stakeholders involved in educational technology.
