CoSN/SIIA Feedback Focus Group: Green Computing
How are school districts “greening” their IT networks? Good energy and environmental policies and practices benefit the students, the community and the world, and may even save money for educational institutions. School and district technology leaders have an important role in taking the lead with green computing. Green Computing includes purchase/disposal, energy use and use of computers to reduce waste. Who takes the leadership role in this challenge: the developers/vendors or the education institutions or can they work together to achieve a green computing environment? Schools are in the public spotlight. Taking a community leadership role in addressing environmental concerns is a political and ethical imperative. Educational institutions need to set the right example for students and the community so that our students will have a world that is environmental sound. CoSN and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) in partnership with The Winter Group are looking for district and state education technology leaders to discuss/explore the topic of green computing. Participate in this opportunity for a lively exchange as school chief technology officers share their goals, challenges, and needs on issues surrounding green computing. You need not be an expert, but we are looking for educators who either are doing “green” efforts, or are exploring options. School District CTO's must preregister here. CoSN and SIIA Corporate members are invited to send a representative only to listen to the discussion and they should register here.
