Manager of Professional Learning

CoSN is seeking a Manager of Professional Learning. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Senior Director of External Relations.

Job Summary

The Manager of Professional Learning oversees the development and distribution of all professional advancement offerings for the association. These offerings include publications, webinars, podcasts and online self-study, facilitated and in-person courses/offerings. This position will support the development of key resources tied to leadership initiatives with CoSN project directors.  This position will track grant deliverables and assist with developing proposals for new/renewing grants.

Primary Responsibilities

The incumbent will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Develop tools and resources for district technology leaders including print publications, webinars and online tools.
  • Develop professional advancement opportunities for district technology leaders including on line, facilitated and in person courses.
  • Coordinate promotion for all CoSN professional advancement opportunities with the Communications Department.
  • Coordinate the CoSN webinars and podcast series and work with all presenters to ensure they are comfortable with the format.
  • Manage course enrollment for courses and payment in the Learning Management system and Association Management Systems.
  • Track existing grant proposals to ensure the deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation of the most effective professional advancement practices.
  • Coordinate presentations relating to Leadership Initiatives for CTO clinics.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to coordinate the work of CoSN project Directors for all CoSN Leadership Initiatives.
  • Evaluate professional development programs and ensure that programs have a beneficial impact.
  • Lead the team of volunteer and experts involved in  the Professional Advancement Committee and other relevant committees and panels.
  • Update the CoSN website as needed in areas that relate to the responsibilities.

The incumbent will have the following skills:

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a program manager in a nonprofit setting with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience.
  • A positive, creative, strategic, and energetic team orientation.
  • Excellent organizational, editing, writing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise of instructional design processes and capacity for innovation.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Great attention to detail and a focus on efficiency.
  • Comfort working in a fast‐paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of current trends in curriculum for professional development; planning and project management; and, collaboration, coordination, and facilitation of work groups.
  • An understanding of the U.S. K-12 education system with preference for candidates with experience working at other national/state education associations/nonprofits.
  • Possess technology fluency, including basic website development skills and understanding of using social media and online communities of practice in a professional setting.

Membership Coordinator (PT)

The Membership Coordinator serves as the staff lead for a new strategic partnership CoSN has developed. This includes outreach to prospective members through e-mail and call campaigns.  Responsibilities will include developing and updating prospect lists and planning logistics for virtual and in-person events developed through these new cohorts.

Working with the Director of Membership and Chapter Relations, the Membership Coordinator will design and implement strategies for the retention and recruitment of new members. Additional responsibilities and other support duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the on-staff project coordinator for the new strategic partnership, maintaining records on status of the overall project, as well as communication with the prospective and onboarded members related to this partnership.
  • Works with project consultant, ensuring the contact information for prospective members of this strategic partnership is update to date.
  • Part of logistic planning team for virtual (and eventually) in-person events as part of this strategic partnership
  • Implements membership recruitment and retention campaigns requiring intensive research and prospecting skills.
  • Prepares reports on membership activities.
  • Updates membership records and eliminates duplicate records from member database.
  • Troubleshoots the Membership Database with an eye toward continuous process improvement.
  • Uses information in the database to market CoSN membership and assists in the creation of marketing materials for membership.
  • Cross-trains in other support areas to ensure consistent and full coverage for key Association functions.
  • Supports organizational needs as assigned.

Salary: Compensation: $23 per hour, no benefits.  Position is currently funded under a grant for a two-year period.

Position Status: This is a part time position requiring 20 hours a week.

Requirements:  A Minimum of 1-2 years of experience, preferably in a membership position with a non-profit membership association. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel, an Association Management System, must be able to manage multiple tasks in a small, yet fast-paced organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A team player.
