CoSN Welcomes Congressional Focus on School Infrastructure Needs and Investment

Washington, DC
Tuesday, February 12, 2019
Keith Krueger, CEO for CoSN, issued the following statement ahead of today’s House Education & Labor Full Committee hearing, titled “How Underfunding Public Education Shortchanges America’s Students”:

“CoSN applauds the Committee and Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA) for using its first education hearing this year to examine the state of infrastructure in our nation’s schools. This discussion could not come at a more crucial juncture in the public education funding debate. As CoSN’s recent Annual Infrastructure Survey revealed, significant challenges persist in increasing broadband connectivity to rural and poor communities and in ensuring that all students have access to digital tools and resources.

“Policy measures, such as Chairman Scott’s Rebuild America's Schools Act of 2019 (H.R.865), would importantly authorize new investments that build onto existing high-speed broadband programs and partnerships. This would be a game-changer for promoting digital equity nationwide. Any infrastructure package advanced by Congress and the administration should include H.R.865.

“As CoSN has underscored for years, investing in the nation’s educational infrastructure is an investment in supporting teaching and learning. The Committee’s actions this week take a big step in that direction.”
