Every Student Succeeds Act Is a ‘Renewed, Long-Awaited Commitment’ to Digital Equity

Washington, D.C. (December 1, 2015) – CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking) CEO Keith Krueger today issued the following statement on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA):

“On behalf of its members, CoSN urges the House and Senate to approve the Every Student Succeeds Act – legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act – for the President’s signature without delay.

“This legislation represents a renewed, long-awaited commitment to digital equity. It will strengthen the technology competencies of educators, including their data privacy know-how, and give more students the tools needed for success in college and career preparation.

“Far too many educators lack the 21st century training to enhance teaching and learning through technology. Innovations and educational practices have simply outpaced federal law and investment, leaving poor communities behind the digital curve.

“The ESSA also commissions an important ‘Homework Gap’ study, so policymakers can collect information and work toward policy that will improve broadband access at home and extend the learning experience for students.”
