Washington, DC (September 11, 2015) – CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking) today launched three new online courses for school district leaders.

Offered through CoSN’s online education program, the courses provide educators self-paced instruction on acquiring the skills to be technology leaders, implement social media strategies, and protect student privacy.

Each course is informed by CoSN’s Framework of Essential Skills of the K-12 CTO.

“Similar to our students, educators must be lifelong learners to lead transformational learning environments,” said Irene Spero, Chief Strategy Officer. “These new, affordable, accessible, and engaging courses allow educators to advance professionally and bring a breadth of knowledge back to their districts.”

Included below is a description of the three new online courses.

Transition to the Role of a 21st Century District Education Technology Leader

District technology leaders come from different career paths, be it from instructional, the technical side, or the business community. Strengthening the various skills and abilities of all participants, this 15-module course helps leaders carry out the vision for empowering learning innovation through technology.

Connected Learning – Leading and Learning with Social Media

Social media presents powerful learning opportunities as well as new challenges for K-12 students and educators. Designed for district leaders who are inexperienced and uncomfortable with social media, this seven-module course equips them with the practical skills to safely implement effective social media strategies in their schools.

Protecting Student Privacy in Connected Learning

Educators, students, and parents benefit from new instructional technologies, enabling rich classroom experiences and anytime, anywhere learning. With new possibilities, however, come new challenges. This nine-module course will help school district leaders to understand existing privacy laws, define best and necessary practices around privacy, and better communicate with their communities.

All courses are self-directed and hosted entirely online. For more details, including price packages, please visit:
