SUMMARY:Webinar: The District Operating System\, Reimagined
DESCRIPTION:Best of CoSN Webinar Series\nMissed CoSN2026 in Chicago or couldn’t make it to every must-see session? Now’s your chance to catch the highlights. This series features the most in-demand\, standing-room-only sessions\, selected by real attendee buzz and engagement. Join top EdTech leaders from across the country as they share the ideas\, strategies\, and insights everyone’s still talking about—all in a convenient\, no-travel-required format. \n\nThis isn’t theory-it’s operations-level transformation. In this session\, two leaders from Agua Fria HSD showcase how AI-integrated workflows are actively redefining productivity across education departments. As the first public high school district to launch full-scale ChatGPT EDU\, Agua Fria has moved beyond experimentation into full adoption with measurable results. \nFrom HR and IT to curriculum and communications\, presenters walk attendees through real workflows that have streamlined systems\, reduced staff fatigue\, improved turnaround time\, and saved money. They’ll also share how these changes were introduced through a human-centered lens-grounded in ethics\, professional learning\, and clarity. \nAttendees will leave with an actionable blueprint for identifying AI opportunities in their own organizations\, sample workflow maps\, and key questions every leader should ask to ensure responsible\, sustainable implementation. This session is built for decision-makers ready to scale smart-not just adopt tools-and learn from a district setting the pace for AI integration in public education. \nAgua Fria isn’t just piloting AI-we’re structuring it. We’re proud to be one of the first public school districts in the nation to establish a dedicated Innovation & AI Department\, tasked with systemwide support for ethical\, impactful AI implementation. Our work goes beyond tech access-we’ve developed a paid AI Ambassador program that empowers educators across sites to lead professional learning\, co-design workflows\, and serve as thought partners in district transformation. This grassroots-meets-strategic approach ensures AI adoption is scalable\, sustainable\, and built with staff voice at the center. Attendees will gain insight into how to design similar structures in their own districts and leave with tools to take immediate next steps-whether they’re just starting or ready to scale. \nSession Speakers\n\nLauren C. Owens\, M. Ed.\nChief Technology Officer\, New Trier Township High School District 203 (IL) \n\nDrew Olsson\, M.Ed.\nDirector of AI and Instructional Technology\, Agua Fria Union High School District (FL)

SUMMARY:Webinar: Data Privacy – An Ohio District’s Journey
DESCRIPTION:Best of CoSN Webinar Series\nMissed CoSN2026 in Chicago or couldn’t make it to every must-see session? Now’s your chance to catch the highlights. This series features the most in-demand\, standing-room-only sessions\, selected by real attendee buzz and engagement. Join top EdTech leaders from across the country as they share the ideas\, strategies\, and insights everyone’s still talking about\, all in a convenient\, no-travel-required format. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll follow one Ohio district’s journey as they tackled the task of doing better with protecting student data – creating and implementing a data privacy plan; highlighting their challenges and successes in shifting how digital resources are handled; from initial planning and implementation and see adjustments made through months after to strengthen the process and keep the implementation successful. \nParticipants will learn actionable strategies for building this plan\, including: \n• Assembling Your Data Privacy Team: \n• Education on Laws and Policies: \n• Inventory of Resources and Data Sharing: \n• Creating a Vetting and Approval Process: \n• Executing Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs) with Vendors: \n• Creating Transparency with Community Stakeholders: \nDistricts need to build a culture where data privacy is considered in district decisions because it is the right thing to do\, not just because it’s the law. This Ohio district’s real-world example demonstrates the practical impact of these principles. \nFeatured Presenters:\n\nDawn Schiavone\, CETL\nStudent Data Privacy Officer\, Northern Buckeye Education Council (OH) \n\nPete Zagray\, Ed.D.\, CETL\nDirector of Technology\, Westlake City Schools (OH)\n \n\nAmanda Musselman\, MA\nAssociate Superintendent of Instruction at Westlake City School District ((OH) \n

SUMMARY:From Digital Fear to Digital Trust: Reframing the Screen Time Debate Workshop Spring 2027
DESCRIPTION:Collaborate with peers across the country\, check in with other people across the nation on this topic and leave with valuable resources to help you and your district! \nK–12 districts are being forced into a false-choice conversation about “screen time” that lumps passive social media consumption together with purposeful\, research-informed educational technology. School leaders deserve a more nuanced\, and far more honest\, conversation. \nThis collaborative\, facilitated workshop series brings together forward-thinking district leaders from across the country to help communities move from digital fear to digital trust. Together\, participants will explore how to communicate the difference between distraction and meaningful learning\, streamline district technology practices\, and build stronger community understanding around the role of purposeful technology in modern education. \nAttendees will leave with practical strategies\, peer-tested ideas\, and an advocacy toolkit designed to help educate families and school boards. Most importantly\, participants will develop a proactive storytelling framework that reframes classroom technology around purposeful learning\, student opportunity\, local decision-making\, and student well-being\, because powerful learning is defined by intentional design\, not screen presence. \nThis workshop meets online on Tuesdays from 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET on the following dates:\nJanuary 26th\, 2027\nFebruary 2nd\, 2027\nFebruary 9th\, 2027 \nSessions are recorded if you are unable to make an individual session. \nRead more about the instructor Danielle Tymitz here. \nYou are eligible for 5 CEA hours for CETL® recertification and district professional learning needs by completing 3 hours of live sessions and 2 hours of independent offline work. If a school emergency arises and you miss a session\, you are expected to watch the recording and notify the instructor. Certificates will be issued once the instructor verifies final participation at the conclusion of the workshop. \nEducator: Members $149; Non-Members $249\nCorporate: Members $299; Non-Members $499\nBulk pricing for same organization registration: 2-4 10% discount\, 5-10 15% discount\, 11+ 25% discount. \nThis opportunity is eligible for CoSN Professional Learning Packages(opens in new tab). SUMMARY:Webinar: Project Managed\, People Ignored: Why Change Fails
\n\nThis session challenges that narrow definition of success and makes the case for embedding change management into every phase of project leadership. Participants will learn how to move beyond Gantt charts and vendor checklists by applying three key frameworks: Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model (to structure momentum)\, Lichtman’s Change Prediction Tool (to gauge risk)\, and the SCARF model (to address psychological responses to change). The goal: to lead change that people adopt\, sustain\, and champion. \nWe’ll analyze real-world examples of “failed” success and offer practical strategies for integrating change readiness into project planning\, especially for digital\, IT\, or instructional shifts. Participants will walk away with tools to assess their own projects through a people-first lens. \nAttendees will leave with practical tools to map readiness\, frame change narratives\, and lead initiatives that stick—whether rolling out enterprise IT platforms\, shifting instructional practices\, or scaling innovation across departments. \nFeatured Speakers: \n \nAmy Jackson\, Ed.D. SUMMARY:AI District Leaders Action Summit - Knoxville\, TN - November 5–6
DESCRIPTION:Move Beyond Awareness—Create a Strategic Roadmap for AI Adoption \nNovember 5–6\, 2026 – Knoxville\, TN  \nThis interactive summit supports Superintendent-led executive leadership teams in moving from AI exploration to intentional implementation. You’ll leave with a clear vision\, and a head start on creating a fast start 3- to 9-month action plan that aligns generative AI with your district’s mission\, values\, and long-term goals. \nWhy Attend \n“AI is revolutionizing how we conduct business in education and will greatly impact teaching\, learning and assessments. It carries possibilities and risks\, and we must plan for it accordingly.” \n– May 2025 Summit participant \nWhat You’ll Experience \nCome ready to roll up your sleeves!  \n\nBring together key decision-makers and stakeholders for protected time to focus on shared planning and alignment.\nExplore how strategic integration of AI capabilities into school district operations is a critical step on the path toward full adoption of AI tools for teaching and learning.\nGain experience on how to use the CoSN/CGCS K-12 Gen AI Maturity Tool(opens in new tab) to gauge your district’s current readiness across seven cross-functional domains.\nWork as a district leadership team to build a mission-aligned\, three- to nine-month implementation roadmap rooted in insights from the maturity assessment.\nLearn how adopting a change management framework can support stakeholder engagement and leadership accountability\, helping to ensure sustainable progress.\nLeave with a clearly articulated rationale and strategy for AI integration aligned with your district’s mission\, vision\, and values\, and a Board-ready presentation outlining goals and next steps.\n\nNEW! Post-Summit Monthly Virtual Roundtables \nDistrict teams that attend the Summit have the option of adding on participation in a monthly\, facilitated virtual roundtable series beginning after the event. Each session will focus on a strategic topic directly tied to roadmap implementation and will help teams pressure-test plans\, navigate common barriers\, and learn what’s working in peer districts. The roundtables are designed to extend the value of the Summit by providing ongoing opportunities for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing as districts move from planning to action and work to successfully implement their roadmaps. \nCan districts outside TN attend? \nYes\, absolutely. While this summit takes place in TN and may have some references to state-specific guidance\, it is designed for all K–12 district leadership teams looking to move from AI awareness to strategic adoption. \nWho Should Participate \nThis summit is ideal for district teams in decision-making roles needing the framework and dedicated time to lead strategic AI implementation—especially those seeking to build internal alignment and long-term capacity. \nSuggested attendee roles include: \n\nExecutive leadership (Superintendent\, Assistant/Deputy Superintendent\, or Chief of Staff)\nTechnology leadership (CTO\, CIO\, Technology Director\, or IT Coordinator)\nData and reporting leadership (Data/Assessment Director\, SIS or state reporting lead\, registrar\, or equivalent)\nOperations and purchasing leadership (COO\, Business Manager\, School Business Official\, or procurement lead)\nInstructional leadership (Chief Academic Officer\, Curriculum & Instruction leader\, Principal\, or instructional supervisor)\nAcademic technology leadership (Director of Digital Learning\, instructional technology coach\, media specialist\, or edtech coordinator)\n\nLarger teams of five or more with representation in these areas will maximize the benefit of this strategic planning workshop. If there are other individuals in your district who play a meaningful role in AI-related planning or implementation\, we strongly encourage you to include them as well. \nOur district serves less than 2\,000 students.  Should we still attend?  \nAbsolutely. The readiness assessment and roadmap activities scale to your context\, independent of staffing levels or technical capacity. Smaller districts often have advantages: decisions can move to action more quickly\, communication is more direct\, and teams can adapt with greater agility. So whether your leadership team is three people or ten\, you will leave with a practical\, right-sized plan and clear next steps you can act on immediately. We’ve hosted many small districts and helped them to find success. \nWhat Past Summit Participants Are Saying \n\n“This conference greatly improved our capacity and ability to begin our journey on how the district can begin its roadmap on integrating AI responsibly and effectively.”\n– Steven Magno\, Director of Student Services\, McKinney-Vento Liaison\, Peabody Public Schools\n“This was an immensely helpful two-day workshop. The information involved in this AI transformation is overwhelming at times\, but this workshop helped me get a bird’s eye view\, create a roadmap for our next few months as well as our next few years of work\, AND dive into some details. An impressive feat for a workshop. It was also really helpful to hear other districts’ roadmaps at the end of the conference.”\n–  Tina Vanasse\, Assistant Principal\, Acton-Boxborough Regional School District\n“This conference was invaluable to me as a tech director who needs to focus on district readiness for AI in education. Having the opportunity to workshop with your own district team\, colleagues from other districts\, and experts in the field offered the opportunity to clarify the process\, be exposed to other districts process and approach\, and access to incredible resources to make the process easier and more approachable. I will leave here ready to create our district stakeholder team and plan to make this an integral part of our district goals formation and revision.”\n– Dr. Lisa Roe\, CTO\, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School\n“One of the greatest benefits of the CoSN AI workshop was the protected time for our leadership team to collaborate. It created the space for us to ensure that our approach to artificial intelligence is not an add-on\, but a direct accelerator for our existing strategic plan. The guidance and framework provided were instrumental in helping us build a unified vision and a set of actionable goals for the Madison Consolidated Schools.”\n—Dr. Teresa Brown\, Superintendent\n\nPresenters \n\n\n\nPete Just(opens in new tab)\nTom Ryan(opens in new tab)\nScott Elder(opens in new tab)\n\n\n\nEvent Details\nDates: November 5–6\, 2026 \nVenue\n \nSarah Simpson Professional Development Technology Center\n801 Tipton Ave\nKnoxville\, TN 37920 \n\nOvernight Accommodations \nTo reserve an overnight room at the Hilton Knoxville\, please click HERE(opens in new tab).
