SUMMARY:Cybersecurity in Today’s Learning Environments: What School Leaders Must Know and Do Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Doug Brubaker\, Superintendent\, Texarkana Independent School District (TX); Lorrie Owens\, Chief Technology Officer\, Integrated Technology Services\, San Mateo County Office of Education (CA); and Glenn Robbins\, Superintendent\, Brigantine Public Schools (NJ)\nModerated by Ann McMullan\, Project Director\, CoSN (Consortium for School Networking) EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative \nTwo school district superintendents and the chief technology officer of a county office of education share the strategies they use to analyze a network’s cybersecurity status as well as how to build and sustain school networks that are created to maximize security. They will also explain the processes they have established to respond to a network attack if such an event occurs. \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. This program may qualify for CoSN CETL® Recertification. \nAs school districts continue to be targeted and severely impacted by cyberattacks\, it is incumbent upon school leaders to know how to prevent such attacks on their networks and how to respond to cyberattacks should they occur. Superintendents\, working in collaboration with their technology leaders\, must know how to create and lead the processes required to protect their districts’ networks from cyberattacks. They must also be able to communicate the importance of school district cybersecurity both internally\, within all areas of their school systems\, and externally with parents\, vendors\, and the broader school community. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, two school district superintendents and the chief technology officer of a county office of education share the strategies they use to analyze a network’s cybersecurity status as well as how to build and sustain school networks that are created to maximize security. They will also explain the processes they have established to respond to a network attack if such an event occurs. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \n  \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Doug Brubaker joined Texarkana Independent School District as Superintendent in January 2021. SUMMARY:Leadership Challenges and Solutions Regarding Data Privacy in Technology-Enriched Learning Environments
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Casey Bertram\, Superintendent\, Bozeman Public Schools (MT); Dr. Alex Marrero\, Superintendent\, Denver Public Schools (CO); and Dr. Penelope Martin-Knox\, Superintendent\, Raytown Quality Schools (MO)\nModerated by Ann McMullan\, Project Director\, CoSN (Consortium for School Networking) EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative \nSponsored by ClassLink\nThis edLeader Panel series is co-hosted by CoSN\, AASA\, and edWeb.net \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. This program may qualify for CoSN CETL® Recertification. \nToday\, in any school system\, data privacy is a priority that touches every aspect of school operations. In this edLeader Panel\, three superintendents share the successful strategies they lead to assess their school districts’ privacy and compliance policies and the practices they implement as they relate to their districts’ systemwide use of technology. \nAttendees will hear how each superintendent addresses several specific critical guidelines for leading school system data privacy initiatives\, including staying current with state and federal laws\, keeping instructional impacts in the picture\, and effective training strategies for staff and students. \nAll three superintendents represent school districts that have earned the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal\, the nation’s only privacy framework designed specifically for school systems. When any school district goes through the process of earning the TLE Seal they develop strong data privacy programs and are able to build a culture of trust with all the communities they serve. Attendees will learn how their own school districts can earn the TLE Seal. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \nAbout the Presenters \nCasey Bertram began his education career as a teacher and principal in Kalispell\, Montana. While working there\, Hedges Elementary School in Kalispell was awarded the 2010 National Title One Distinguished Schools Award for sustained excellence in academic achievement. Mr. Bertram then served for seven years as the principal of Hawthorne Elementary in Bozeman. In 2018\, Hawthorne Elementary was recognized as a Solution Tree Model PLC School. \nDuring the 2020-2021 school year\, Mr. Bertram served as both Bozeman Public Schools’ Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Technology as well as Interim Co-Superintendent. Mr. Bertram was recently hired as the permanent superintendent of Bozeman Public Schools. Mr. Bertram lives and plays in Bozeman with his wife\, Lacey\, and four children. \n \nDr. Alex Marrero leads with a vision of supporting students the way educators have supported him. As the child of a Cuban refugee and an immigrant from the Dominican Republic\, he prides himself on representing many of the Latinx students in the communities he has served as both a school and district leader. Dr. Marrero has been honored as an outstanding administrator by the Latino Caucus of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators and inducted into the New York Academy of Public Education. He received a Leadership and Excellence in Education Award from the Association of Dominican-American Supervisors and Administrators and was recognized as the National Latino Administrator of the Year by the Association for Latino Administrators and Superintendents. Planning for and implementing district technology investments in any school system is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders\, each with their own valid concerns and requests. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, three experienced superintendents reveal the strategies they lead to evaluate\, rethink\, and strengthen district technology decision making. The superintendents will reveal how they work with their district teams to assure that priorities are aligned when evaluating the requisite data around total cost of ownership\, student outcomes\, budget management\, and the true value of any technology expenditure. Current opportunities and challenges around leveraging new funding resources while also finding ways to sustain innovations when specific initial funding resources are no longer available will also be discussed. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Chris Gaines is Superintendent of Mehlville School District in suburban St. Louis\, Missouri. The accessibility policies and practices school leaders implement must be consistently vocal and visible to all within the communities they serve. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, two leading-edge superintendents join with the director of technical assistance at CAST (originally known as the Center for Applied Special Technology) in an interactive discussion around the strategies used to successfully lead accessibility for all. Training procedures for providing teachers and staff with the skills to effectively leverage technology to assist students\, parents\, guardians\, and staff will be reviewed. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. SUMMARY:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)\nFormerly titled: Metaverse \nBrought to you by CoSN’s Emerging Technologies Committee. \nJanuary 19th\, 2023 1:00-2:00 PM ET \n\nEveryone is talking about the metaverse. Its diverse applications include gaming\, real estate and entertainment among others. Few are addressing how this relatively new technology might impact education for good or for bad. The metaverse can bring us to new worlds that would rarely or never be personally explored – from ancient Greece\, to underwater adventures\, to outer space. But crafting these experiences in ways that are educationally sound requires intentionality and inclusion of the latest science on how and what children need to learn. This talk brings the science together with the technology to offer a framework for educational sound development of the metaverse. \n*Everyone who registers for the event will receive a link to the recording. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, Ph.D. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, a Professor of Psychology at Temple University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution was declared a “scientific entrepreneur\,” from the American Association of Psychology.
