In this edLeader Panel\, three leading superintendents share the strategies their districts implement to assure that their professional learning programs are aligned to improving digital literacy and the technology capacity of their educators\, administrators\, students\, and even parents and families. \nWhen it comes to maximizing technology tools for learning\, professional learning for all educators requires a focus not only on specific tools but also on impactful changes in pedagogy that support the sustained effective use of technology tools. Items to be covered in this conversation with the three superintendents include how school districts create professional learning opportunities that focus on specific content areas\, provide opportunities for hands-on learning\, and directly connect to the daily practice activities of their professional learners. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \n  \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Deborah Kerr is the superintendent of St. Francis School District in St. Francis\, Wisconsin\, with over 1\,000 students\, 100 teachers\, and 50% economically disadvantaged. SUMMARY:Leadership Challenges and Solutions Regarding Data Privacy in Technology-Enriched Learning Environments
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Casey Bertram\, Superintendent\, Bozeman Public Schools (MT); Dr. Alex Marrero\, Superintendent\, Denver Public Schools (CO); and Dr. Penelope Martin-Knox\, Superintendent\, Raytown Quality Schools (MO)\nModerated by Ann McMullan\, Project Director\, CoSN (Consortium for School Networking) EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative \nSponsored by ClassLink\nThis edLeader Panel series is co-hosted by CoSN\, AASA\, and edWeb.net \nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. In this edLeader Panel\, three superintendents share the successful strategies they lead to assess their school districts’ privacy and compliance policies and the practices they implement as they relate to their districts’ systemwide use of technology. \nAttendees will hear how each superintendent addresses several specific critical guidelines for leading school system data privacy initiatives\, including staying current with state and federal laws\, keeping instructional impacts in the picture\, and effective training strategies for staff and students. \nAll three superintendents represent school districts that have earned the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal\, the nation’s only privacy framework designed specifically for school systems. When any school district goes through the process of earning the TLE Seal they develop strong data privacy programs and are able to build a culture of trust with all the communities they serve. Attendees will learn how their own school districts can earn the TLE Seal. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \nAbout the Presenters \nCasey Bertram began his education career as a teacher and principal in Kalispell\, Montana. This program may qualify for CoSN CETL® Recertification. \nTechnology plays a critical role when it comes to school districts assuring that equitable learning opportunities are accessible for ALL students\, especially those with disabilities\, learning differences\, and English language learners\, as well as students from lower socio-economic communities. In addition to making certain that all students have access to their needed course content and tools\, school leaders need to ensure that the information they provide to the public\, parents\, guardians\, and staff is readily accessible on any technology device. The needs inherent in guaranteeing accessibility for all go beyond meeting the legal requirements defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The accessibility policies and practices school leaders implement must be consistently vocal and visible to all within the communities they serve. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, two leading-edge superintendents join with the director of technical assistance at CAST (originally known as the Center for Applied Special Technology) in an interactive discussion around the strategies used to successfully lead accessibility for all. Training procedures for providing teachers and staff with the skills to effectively leverage technology to assist students\, parents\, guardians\, and staff will be reviewed. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. SUMMARY:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)\nFormerly titled: Metaverse \nBrought to you by CoSN’s Emerging Technologies Committee. \nJanuary 19th\, 2023 1:00-2:00 PM ET \n\nEveryone is talking about the metaverse. Its diverse applications include gaming\, real estate and entertainment among others. Few are addressing how this relatively new technology might impact education for good or for bad. The metaverse can bring us to new worlds that would rarely or never be personally explored – from ancient Greece\, to underwater adventures\, to outer space. But crafting these experiences in ways that are educationally sound requires intentionality and inclusion of the latest science on how and what children need to learn. This talk brings the science together with the technology to offer a framework for educational sound development of the metaverse. \n*Everyone who registers for the event will receive a link to the recording. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, Ph.D. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, a Professor of Psychology at Temple University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution was declared a “scientific entrepreneur\,” from the American Association of Psychology. Writing 16 books and 250+ publications\, she served as President of the International Congress for Infant Studies and was on the Governing Board of the Society for Research in Child Development and is on the board of Zero to Three. Her Einstein Never Used Flashcards won the Book for a Better Life Award in 2003 with her Becoming Brilliant (2016) reaching the NYTimes Best Sellers List in education. Her newest book Making Schools Work came out in November of 2022. Hirsh-Pasek won awards from every psychological and educational society for her basic science and translational work designed to bridge basic science and educational impact. A founding member of the Latin American School for Educational and Cognitive Neuroscience\, she spearheaded a global network of scientists devoted to educational science. Co-founder of the global Learning Science Exchange Fellowship\, she brings together scientists\, journalists\, policy makers and entertainers\, to put learning science in the hands of educators. In 2021\, she was elected as a member of the National Academy of Education. Her initiative Playful Learning Landscapes re-imagines cities and public squares as places with science infused designs that enhance academic and social opportunities. Hirsh-Pasek frequently comments for the press (e.g. NPR\, NYT) and blogs for the Brookings Institution. \nEdward McKaveney\, Ed.D.\, CETL  \nHaving worked with education/information technologies\, media and security in higher education and K-12 for more than 25-years\, I have been continuously focused on the advancement of student learning\, faculty development and operational success through the innovative use of technologies.
