Planning for and implementing district technology investments in any school system is a complex process involving multiple stakeholders\, each with their own valid concerns and requests. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, three experienced superintendents reveal the strategies they lead to evaluate\, rethink\, and strengthen district technology decision making. The superintendents will reveal how they work with their district teams to assure that priorities are aligned when evaluating the requisite data around total cost of ownership\, student outcomes\, budget management\, and the true value of any technology expenditure. Current opportunities and challenges around leveraging new funding resources while also finding ways to sustain innovations when specific initial funding resources are no longer available will also be discussed. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Chris Gaines is Superintendent of Mehlville School District in suburban St. Louis\, Missouri. This program may qualify for CoSN CETL® Recertification. \nTechnology plays a critical role when it comes to school districts assuring that equitable learning opportunities are accessible for ALL students\, especially those with disabilities\, learning differences\, and English language learners\, as well as students from lower socio-economic communities. In addition to making certain that all students have access to their needed course content and tools\, school leaders need to ensure that the information they provide to the public\, parents\, guardians\, and staff is readily accessible on any technology device. The needs inherent in guaranteeing accessibility for all go beyond meeting the legal requirements defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The accessibility policies and practices school leaders implement must be consistently vocal and visible to all within the communities they serve. \nIn this edLeader Panel\, two leading-edge superintendents join with the director of technical assistance at CAST (originally known as the Center for Applied Special Technology) in an interactive discussion around the strategies used to successfully lead accessibility for all. Training procedures for providing teachers and staff with the skills to effectively leverage technology to assist students\, parents\, guardians\, and staff will be reviewed. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. SUMMARY:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Education meets the universe: The promise and the worry (Free Member Webinar)\nFormerly titled: Metaverse \nBrought to you by CoSN’s Emerging Technologies Committee. \nJanuary 19th\, 2023 1:00-2:00 PM ET \n\nEveryone is talking about the metaverse. Its diverse applications include gaming\, real estate and entertainment among others. Few are addressing how this relatively new technology might impact education for good or for bad. The metaverse can bring us to new worlds that would rarely or never be personally explored – from ancient Greece\, to underwater adventures\, to outer space. But crafting these experiences in ways that are educationally sound requires intentionality and inclusion of the latest science on how and what children need to learn. This talk brings the science together with the technology to offer a framework for educational sound development of the metaverse. \n*Everyone who registers for the event will receive a link to the recording. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, Ph.D. \nKathy Hirsh-Pasek\, a Professor of Psychology at Temple University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution was declared a “scientific entrepreneur\,” from the American Association of Psychology. Writing 16 books and 250+ publications\, she served as President of the International Congress for Infant Studies and was on the Governing Board of the Society for Research in Child Development and is on the board of Zero to Three. Her Einstein Never Used Flashcards won the Book for a Better Life Award in 2003 with her Becoming Brilliant (2016) reaching the NYTimes Best Sellers List in education. Her newest book Making Schools Work came out in November of 2022. Hirsh-Pasek won awards from every psychological and educational society for her basic science and translational work designed to bridge basic science and educational impact. A founding member of the Latin American School for Educational and Cognitive Neuroscience\, she spearheaded a global network of scientists devoted to educational science. Co-founder of the global Learning Science Exchange Fellowship\, she brings together scientists\, journalists\, policy makers and entertainers\, to put learning science in the hands of educators. In 2021\, she was elected as a member of the National Academy of Education. In a recent survey by Logitech and Education Week\, 74% of teachers agreed that students’ level of physical comfort while using educational technology impacts their level of engagement in learning “some” or “a lot.” \nResearch shows that when educators are equipped with the right tools\, student engagement and learning outcomes can increase. Join us to learn practical and creative EdTech strategies and actionable tips to overcome today’s classroom challenges. \nThis edLeader Panel will be of interest to K-12 teachers\, school and district leaders\, education technology leaders\, curriculum directors\, technology directors\, and instructional technology coaches. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. \nPresenters: \nMadeleine Mortimore\, Global Education Innovation Lead\, Logitech; \nAlice Keeler\, EdTech Influencer; \nBedston Burrell\, Technical Operations Analyst – Audio Visual Services\, Edina Public Schools (MN) \nhttps://home.edweb.net/webinar/technology20230306/

SUMMARY:School Visit: Tour of Del Valle ISD’s CTE Academy and Center
DESCRIPTION:Del Valle ISD (DVISD) was an early adopter of The State of Texas’ reorganization of CTE in Texas. Although DVISD had numerous CTE class offerings\, the programming lacked the “coherent sequencing” needed to ensure multiple successful outcomes for students by graduation. DVISD has one comprehensive high school with an enrollment of 3400 students\, with 68% enrolled in one of the 23 CTE four-year programs of study. All of the programs have college credit and industry-based-certification opportunities. Each program of study was developed by committees composed of industry leaders\, higher education partners\, relevant vendors\, curriculum teams\, teachers\, architecture and engineering firms\, and community members. The uniqueness of the Del Valle ISD CTE department\, is the sheer scope of the facilities and of the curricula existing within one high school facility. \nSite Visit Schedule: \n8:00 am Depart from Austin Marriott Downtown Lobby 304 East Cesar Chavez Street\, Austin\, TX 78701 \n8:30 am Arrive at Del Valle ISD’s CTE Academy and Center 5201 Ross Rd\, Del Valle\, TX 78617 \n8:30 Welcome remarks from Career and Technology  and  DV Technology \n9:00 Tour – Career and Technology Innovation Space \n11:00 Gather in Learning Commons for questions and answers and closing comments  \n11:30 Board bus for box lunches and transfer to the airport and back to the hotel. \n11:45-12:00 Arrive at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to drop off travelers \n12:30 Return to Hotel \nThis conference-related event requires pre-registration. The event registration fee includes transportation and box lunch. \nLimited spots are available\, so register for the conference here(opens in new tab) and sign up early for this special event!
