The two school district superintendents will articulate the realities from the perspectives of individual school districts. AASA’s Executive Director will relate his insights from a broader\, national point of view. \nTopics to be discussed include: \n\nA brief look at leading the use of AI and ChatGPT in K-12 education\nSustainability of new programs that were funded by special resources during the prior school year\nFinding success in providing new learning opportunities for all\nAddressing digital equity\nAssuring safe and secure online access for district employees\, students\, and their families\n\nAccess to free resources that support the five topics listed above will be shared. Join in the conversation with three education leaders to learn how they address several current realities of K-12 education systems by successfully navigating challenges as they occur\, while also leveraging positive opportunities for growth and improvement in the systems they lead. \nThis edLeader Panel is of particular value to superintendents\, K-12 school and district leaders\, and aspiring school leaders. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the panelists during the live broadcast. \nAbout the Presenters \nDr. Carol L. Kelley serves as Superintendent of Princeton Public Schools (NJ)\, a PreK-12 school system with 3\,900 students. Prior to joining PPS\, Dr. Kelley spent six years as Superintendent of Oak Park Elementary School District 97 (Oak Park\, IL) and three years as Superintendent of Branchburg Township School District\, New Jersey. She has also held teaching and administrator positions in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. \nDr. Kelley’s career is guided by her deep commitment to equity-centered systems change to address racial\, economic\, and academic disparities in education. She is considered a thought leader and speaker for several organizations and has received recognition for her professional work and contribution to education from various organizations and groups\, including the prestigious Governor’s Teacher award from the state of New Jersey and the 2020 Superintendent of Distinction from Illinois Association of School Administrators. Dr. Kelley is the proud mom of two sons\, Jordan and Austin. \n\n\n\nA passionate\, visionary leader in public education for nearly three decades\, Dr. Aaron Spence is committed to ensuring all students have access to the rigorous coursework\, innovative learning opportunities\, and resources they need to prepare them for success. He’s been credited with creating and fostering a work culture where differences are celebrated and employee voice is valued. Dr. Spence serves as Superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools\, where he is responsible for the instructional leadership and administrative operation of 96 schools and centers that serve 83\,000 students. Prior to that\, he served as Superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS)\, where he was named State Superintendent of the Year in 2018. He has been superintendent in North Carolina and held various roles in the Central Office and as a school principal in Texas and Virginia. Dr. Spence began his career in 1994 as a French and photojournalism teacher. \n\n\n\nKnown for his ability to inspire leaders and build new opportunities for student success\, Dr. David R. Schuler earned the title of 2018 Illinois and National Superintendent of the Year and served as the 2015-2016 President of AASA\, The School Superintendents Association. In the latter role\, he spearheaded the national Redefining Ready! movement\, which redefines what it means for students to be college\, career\, and life ready. He led the national Redefining Ready! Cohort and the Aspiring Superintendents Academy through AASA\, where he shares his perspectives on leadership and helps develop the next generation of outstanding leaders who lift up public education. Dr. Schuler began his role as the ninth Executive Director in the 156 years of AASA\, The School Superintendents Association in February 2023. \n\n\n\nAbout the Host \nAnn McMullan is Project Director for the CoSN/AASA EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative. Ann served as Executive Director for Educational Technology in Klein ISD near Houston\, Texas until September 2013\, when she and her family moved to Los Angeles\, California. For 16 years Ann led the district team that provided professional development on technology and 21st century instructional strategies to 4\,000 educators serving 50\,000 students. She was co-chair of the Texas Education Technology Advisory Committee which developed the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology. \nToday\, Ann works as a public speaker\, writer\, and consultant focused on leadership to meet the needs of today’s students. Ann serves on the edWeb.net Advisory Board\, ClassLink’s Senior Advisors Group\, and is a founding member of ERDI’s Ed Leadership Council. She also volunteers as a leadership consultant for the Executive Service Corps of Southern California\, serving non-profit associations.
