Social media has become an important part of our private and professional lives and as such, it presents new challenges and powerful learning opportunities for K–12 students and educators. No era in history has come close to the quality and volume of learning resources that are at our fingertips. Informed leadership from all key stakeholders is required to seize the learning opportunities while minimizing the risks. School district leaders need to define a new vision and acquire appropriate skills in order to productively and effectively use social media in  education.  The goal of the course is to allow district leaders who may not feel comfortable with social media to acquire the practical skills necessary for successful implementation of social media in their schools and communities. The course provides strategies in developing stimulating and safe learning environments that can offer substantial educational benefits of the use of social media in education. This 7-module course takes an in-depth look at the use of social media in the classroom, for professional development and for communication with parents and the community. Each module includes "To Do" exercises, "Reflection Questions" to help you gauge your understanding of the specific skill area, an "Extending Your Study" section with resources for additional information on the module's topics and an "Activity" to wrap up the knowledge you gained with a hands-on activity.
