What can the information technology professional do to secure school systems’ information infrastructure? CoSN has designed an online course focusing on enterprise security issues for school technology staff. Learn the fundamentals of IT security and provide advanced persistent protection for your students’ information.

This seven-week facilitated online course will help IT staff learn the fundamentals of IT security and improve their understanding of enterprise security issues. The content is comprised of three modules – 1) Network Security, 2) Risks and Controls, and 3) Vulnerabilities and Mitigation. There are also to-do activities such as reflection questions and extending your learning as well as summative assessments after each module. Improve your cybersecurity knowledge today!

This course meets online every *Wednesday from July 7th – September 1st, 2027 from 2:00-3:00 PM ET.

Our subject matter expert and instructor regularly updates this course with current information. Read more about Amy McLaughlin here. Read the course syllabus for more information.

*Sessions are recorded if you are unable to make an individual session.
Participants successfully completing the course will receive a Certificate of Completion, earn 9 CEA Credits toward CETL® recertification, and have access to the course materials for one full year. If a school emergency arises and you miss a session, you are expected to watch the recording and notify the instructor. Certificates will be issued once the instructor verifies final participation at the conclusion of the course.

This content covers areas of the CoSN Framework of Essential Skills of a K-12 CTO which guides the study and test for the CETL® Certification. CoSN Professional Learning opportunities are completely independent of the CETL® certification program, which requires a separate application. This course is not a prerequisite for the exam, nor is it developed or endorsed by the independent CETL® Certification Governance Committee, which solely manages all certification policies, requirements, and applications.
