CoSN/CGCS K-12 Gen AI Maturity Tool

For Organizational Assessment, Readiness & Planning

CoSN and the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS) collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop an online tool, the K-12 Generative AI Maturity Tool, which expands upon the K-12 Generative AI Readiness Checklist unveiled in autumn 2023. This innovative tool empowers school districts to assess their preparedness for the responsible integration of Generative AI technologies to support their instructional and operational objectives. It provides tailored recommendations for enhancement across key domain areas, facilitating ongoing improvement efforts.

This tool is freely accessible to any organization, with no obligation to submit personally identifiable information. Upon completion of the assessment, you will receive immediate access to your assessment results. Additionally, a comprehensive report outlining your results and personalized recommendations will be generated. To obtain the complete report, you will need to provide your contact information.

In an era defined by rapid technological advancements, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in education. However, the successful integration of AI into a school district’s strategy requires careful planning, preparation, and evaluation.

The Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) and CoSN worked in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a K-12 Generative AI (Gen AI) Readiness Checklist Questionnaire—a list of questions that K-12 districts can use to build an understanding of the factors they should consider prior to implementing Gen AI technology solutions. This checklist is intended to be used as a tool to build a foundational understanding of the tactical considerations necessary to ensure that Gen AI is implemented safely and securely, without bias or algorithmic discrimination, with controls around data privacy, and with an understanding of the sources from which information is being generated. AI Guidance for Schools Toolkit

TeachAI has launched an AI Guidance for Schools Toolkit to help school systems worldwide meet the urgent need for guidance on the safe, effective, and responsible use of AI. The AI Guidance for Schools Toolkit gives policymakers, school leaders, and staff a set of practical resources for developing initial guidance on AI in their schools. Written by a group of co-authors from Code.org, CoSN, Digital Promise, the European EdTech Alliance, and PACE, the toolkit presents an overview of the issues involved in AI in schools, seven principles to consider when developing AI guidance for education systems, real-world guidance examples, sample language, and resources for staff, parents, and students. Learn more here: teachai.org/toolkit and register for the November 8 launch webinars at teachai.org/webinars. Read the Press Release here.
