CoSN Joins National Partners in Urging Educators, District Leaders, and Communities to Take Action Through SaveOurERate.com

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 14, 2026) – CoSN — The Consortium for School Networking today joined other leading education organizations in urging K-12 education technology leaders, district administrators and school communities to make their voices heard after the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) proposal to potentially eliminate or alter the E-Rate program was published in the Federal Register, opening a public comment period that will help shape the future of school connectivity nationwide.

For nearly three decades, E-Rate has helped schools provide reliable broadband connectivity that supports teaching and learning, school operations, cybersecurity and equitable access to educational opportunities. Comments on the FCC’s proposal are due by October 13, 2026, with reply comments due by November 12, 2026.

To support advocacy efforts, CoSN, the Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition and other partners have launched SaveOurERate.com, a central hub with resources for filing FCC comments, contacting members of Congress and taking other actions to support the program. The coalition encourages schools, libraries, and community members to visit the site, share their stories, and stay engaged throughout the proceeding.

“E-Rate is one of the most successful federal programs supporting K-12 education,” said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. “Today’s schools depend on robust broadband connectivity to deliver instruction, support digital learning, protect against cybersecurity threats and ensure all students have access to the tools they need to succeed. We encourage school district leaders to share their experiences and help demonstrate the critical role E-Rate plays in every community.”

The FCC’s proposal asks whether E-Rate, which has provided affordable broadband to schools and libraries for nearly 30 years, should be terminated or limited to rural areas only. CoSN and its partners believe the program’s success demonstrates its continued value and warn that reducing or eliminating E-Rate would disproportionately affect schools and communities that rely on it most.
