CoSN’s Framework of Essential Skills of the K-12 CTO is comprised of three primary professional categories in the education technology field: Leadership & Vision, Understanding the Educational Environment, and Managing Technology & Support Resources. Each of these categories includes 10 essential skill areas, outlining the responsibilities and knowledge needed to be a viable educational technology leader. Each of these skills and the related knowledge needed to demonstrate them are included in CoSN’s Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL®) certification exam.

This course meets online every *Tuesday from Oct 6th – Dec 15th, 2025, from 4:00- 5:30 PM ET.

You will have access to the course content for one year.

This content covers areas of the CoSN Framework of Essential Skills of a K-12 CTO which guides the study and test for the CETL® Certification.

You are eligible for 18 CEA hours for CETL® recertification and district professional learning needs by completing live sessions and the independent offline work. If a school emergency arises and you miss a session, you are expected to watch the recording and notify the instructor. Certificates will be issued once the instructor verifies final participation at the conclusion of the course.

CoSN Professional Learning opportunities are completely independent of the CETL® certification program, which requires a separate application. This course is not a prerequisite for the exam, nor is it developed or endorsed by the independent CETL® Certification Governance Committee, which solely manages all certification policies, requirements, and applications.
