Your CCRE will expire three (3) years after the date of issue.
To renew you are required to:
- Stay current in the cybersecurity field by completing 30 hours of CoSN-defined continuing education activities (CEAs)
- Your renewal activities must take place within your three-year cycle.
- You must [reapply] and submit your hours before *expiration.
*As we transition this program to CoSN, all existing CCREs who's recognition have or will expire has until Jan. 1, 2027 to renew.
Ways to Earn CEAs
Continuing Education Activities (CEAs) are required to renew your CCRE.

Structured Continuing Education
In-person or e-learning through online courses. This includes activities such as seminars, college courses, on-the-job professional development classes or similar vehicles that contribute to the practitioner's knowledge and understanding of cybersecurity needs in K-12. For most structured education, 1 education hour (at least 50 minutes) is 1 CEA. For university or college courses, one credit hour equals 15 CEAs.
Professional Activities
Professional activities that contribute to the CCRE’s further knowledge and understanding of the needs for cybersecurity in K-12 can also earn CEAs.
How To Renew
After you have accumulated 30 hours of activities, you will need to complete your renewal online via your MyCoSN account. Your activities will not be monitored by CoSN or approved until you have accumulated the required 30 hours and your application is submitted.

Note: The CCRE renewal application window opens six months prior to your expiration date. For example, if your CCRE expires on June 30, you will be eligible to submit your application starting January 1. Please note: applications received before the six-month window will be held and not reviewed/approved until you reach the eligible timeframe.
The cost to recertify is $199 for members / $199 for nonmembers.
