Breaking News!! CoSN Applauds Supreme Court Ruling to Uphold the Universal Service Fund

Decision Affirms Federal Commitment to Digital Access for Students, Educators and Communities Nationwide

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund (USF), including the vital E-Rate program. This decision secures the FCC’s authority to continue connecting students, educators, and communities to the broadband infrastructure that fuels modern teaching and learning.

This ruling is not just a legal victory — it’s a win for every school, library, and learner who depends on strong, reliable digital access. As long-time champions of equitable connectivity, we at CoSN are thrilled to see the federal commitment to digital learning reaffirmed at the highest level.

Thanks to this decision, the E-Rate program will continue to serve as a critical foundation for educational equity—empowering innovation, expanding opportunity, and supporting the future of every student, no matter their ZIP code.

Urge Congress to Protect and Invest in Cybersecurity Support for Schools

Cyberattacks on schools are escalating—and just when we need federal support the most, it's being pulled away. The Trump Administration has eliminated key cybersecurity funding for programs at CISA that benefit schools, such as services from the MS-ISAC, and while also cutting staff at the Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology. These actions strip away critical resources that help schools defend against ransomware and other cyber threats. Supporting cybersecurity for schools is a bi-partisan concern, with impacts to everyday American students and their families.
