Washington, D.C. (July 18, 2024) – CoSN CEO Keith Krueger today issued the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) 3-2 vote to update the E-Rate program to support the lending of Wi-Fi hotspots:
“CoSN applauds the FCC for its vote to allow E-Rate funding for off-campus Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless internet access. This is a critical step towards closing the digital divide and ensuring all students can engage in remote learning.
This proposal demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to expanding access and meeting the evolving connectivity needs of students and teachers. As remote learning becomes an integral part of education, reliable internet access is essential to every student.
CoSN thanks the Commission for its initiative in this area and for taking this significant step towards improving educational opportunities for all students. CoSN looks forward to continuing its work with the FCC as E-Rate evolves to address these important issues.”
