Washington, D.C. (May 8, 2019) — Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN, today issued the following statement on the House Appropriations Committee’s approval of the FY 2020 education spending bill:

“The House Appropriations Committee today delivered for America’s school systems in supporting 21st-century learning environments.

“The bill underscores the real needs in schools by appropriating increased funding for the Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) Grant Program of the bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). SSAE promotes engaging, impactful learning settings — from STEM and arts programs to effective uses of technology.

“Educators also stand to benefit. The bill would authorize higher spending levels toward Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants, Title II of ESSA. This would give schools enhanced professional development opportunities and, in turn, strengthen high-quality instruction.

“We thank the Committee for putting students and educators first with this win-win package. The full House and Senate should do the same. To give our students the best chance to succeed, we need to equip them with upgraded learning ecosystems. This starts by advancing crucial education funding ASAP this year.”
