The Trump Administration published a blueprint of the President’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Request asking for a significant decrease ($9 billion or 13 percent) in the U.S. Department of Education’s budget. The document does not provide details on every program, and there is no mention of ESSA Title IV, Part A — the flexible block grant program that provides districts with funding for educational technology. The full budget is not expected to be released until April or May.

CEO Keith Krueger issued the following statement

“CoSN opposes the Trump Administration’s irresponsible and shortsighted proposal to cut the Department of Education budget by $9 billion. Growing the nation’s economy depends on investing in our students and teachers over the long run — not short-changing them, as the proposal would do. We urge the Administration and our nation’s leaders to make this critical investment in any spending plan.”
