Leander Independent School District (LISD) has earned CoSN’s national Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal, which recognizes school systems for demonstrating strong student data privacy practices.
Serving more than 40,000 students across 43 campuses in the Austin metro area, LISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas. LISD joins 16 diverse districts — including three others from Texas — that have earned the Seal. Recipients are required to regularly monitor and improve their privacy practices and reapply for the Seal every two years. The TLE Seal Program is the only K-12 privacy assessment of its kind.

The certification signifies the district’s ongoing commitment to protecting student, business and district data. The process of applying for the TLE Seal in Leander ISD was the culmination of over two years of hard work with a cross-functional team of LISD personnel from HR, Business and Operational teams, as well as Campus Principals, Teachers, Digital Learning, Technology Representatives and Librarians. Without this team’s leadership, dedication and guidance, obtaining the TLE seal would not have been possible,” said James Watson, LISD District Security Administrator.

Developed three years ago for K-12 school systems of all governance structures, the TLE Seal Program was formed by CoSN in partnership with 28 experienced school system leaders nationwide and through the leadership support of The School Superintendents Association (AASA); the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO); and ASCD.
CoSN recently announced ways for states to support district participation in the program by subscribing to a low-cost plan that offers free TLE applications, privacy training, state benchmarking reports and more. Today, more than 75 districts in six states have come together in their communities to build their TLE Seal applications.
