Jennifer Weston, C.A.S. District Leadership, is the Administrator for Technology Services at BT BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services)/South Central Regional Information Center (NY). 1.  How long have you been a member of CoSN?

“I am a new member to CoSN this year.

2.  Why did you join CoSN? What do you enjoy about being a member?

I joined CoSN to participate in the CoSN K-12 CTO Academy and to build connections."

3.  How did you get into the field of educational technology?

"I began my career as an elementary school teacher, primarily teaching second grade. Fortunately, I worked in a district that was 1:1 equipped with technology, well before the pandemic. When the pandemic occurred, we had to fully integrate technology and I willingly embraced it. One day, during a conversation with our Director of Technology, she offered me an internship to help complete my school district leader certificate. I spent a summer working with her and it made me realize that was the job I wanted. Though, I had always aimed to be a building principal, that summer experience changed my aspirations."

4. What CoSN committee are you a part of?

"Although I am not currently a member of a CoSN committee, it is something I would like to consider for the future."

5.  What does your daily work entail?

"The best thing about my job is that it's different each day. As the Director of Technology for my region's BOCES, I support various educational programs and non-instructional departments. I serve as the go-to person for the organization’s tech needs, focusing on consistency and innovation across BOCES. Every day involves collaborating with different departments to support our students and staff effectively."

6.  What emerging trends or technologies in education are you most excited about, and why?

"I am enthusiastic about the potential of AI in the K-12 sector for staff and students. My department recently acquired Co-Pilot, which has proven to be transformative. I aim to demonstrate how we can optimize our workday with AI. Furthermore, I believe this technology will revolutionize education for students. Exciting pilot projects involving students and AI are underway in our region, and I look forward to seeing the outcomes."

7. What is your Television Show?

"My go-to series for rewatching is, Friends, while my current favorite new show is, Chicago Fire. Despite my husband, who is a firefighter, often pointing out its inaccuracies, I still find it highly entertaining."

8.  What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

“Dedicated, energetic, & organized"

9.  What is your favorite Fall activity or hobby?

"In the fall, I love weekend mornings. My husband and I grab coffee at a local shop and take our four-month-old and two-year-old for a walk in the park with their wagon. We let our oldest play on the playground to burn off energy. I also enjoy cheering on the NY Giants, even if their season is rough."
